Sindh on high alert as strong monsoon system nears

KARACHI: Sindh’s government issued high alerts in the provincial district administrations ahead of approaching monsoon season, as per the government warnings of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds till July 25.

According to forecasts by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the strong monsoon currents coming from the Arabian Sea along with the western weather system would likely bring widespread rain and scattered heavy rains in Sindh province during July 23 to July 25.

The chief minister instructed deputy commissioners, municipal administrators, irrigation department, health departments, rescue departments and local governments to be on guard, be ready to deal with the situation and keep drainage systems open to prevent any flooding in urban areas.

The PDMA predicted thunderstorms and heavy to moderate rain in southern and central districts of Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro and Shaheed Benazirabad on July 23 to 25.

The forecasts by Met office suggested warm and humid weather in Karachi over the coming three days along with increase in cloudiness and possibility of drizzle or light rains.
