KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the provincial government plans to add 50 double-decker buses and 500 electric (EV) buses to the public transport network, aiming to significantly improve transportation services across the province.

Speaking at a meeting on Saturday focused on land allocation for bus depots and public transport planning, Memon reviewed progress on infrastructure requirements for upcoming transit projects. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, deputy commissioners from Malir, Korangi, Karachi Central, and Karachi West, along with senior officials from relevant departments.

During the session, officials presented updates on land requirements for bus parking, maintenance, and operational facilities. Discussions also covered the availability of government-owned land in different districts, proposed depot locations, and future infrastructure needs.

Memon instructed officials to expedite the identification and allocation of suitable land for bus depots. He also directed deputy commissioners to locate vacant government land within their respective districts to support the development of modern depots for mass transit services.

He emphasized that the timely establishment of depots and supporting infrastructure is crucial to the successful rollout of the transport projects. Stressing the importance of interdepartmental coordination, Memon urged all concerned agencies to complete land identification and related arrangements without delay.

Reaffirming the Sindh government's commitment to improving public transportation, the senior minister said the initiatives are intended to provide residents with modern, comfortable, environmentally friendly, and world-class travel facilities.
