KARACHI: Two people lost their lives after being swept away by strong sea currents during a family picnic at Manora Beach on Saturday.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 1:00pm when Sohail Anjum, a Chief Aviation Flight Assistant serving at PNS Mehran (under draft to Naval Headquarters), and Muhammad Saad Satti, serving at PNS Shifa, had visited the beach with their families.
An eyewitness, Waseem Haider, a PMT-II serving at PNS Makran, said three family members were caught in strong sea currents near the PAF Hut area. One person was rescued, while two others drowned.
Waseem Haider, assisted by lifeguards, recovered the two victims after nearly 15 minutes and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for around 10 minutes before shifting them to Himalaya Naval Medical Centre (NMC) in a private vehicle.
According to the attending medical officer at the hospital, both victims had died approximately 30 minutes before reaching the medical facility.
Authorities are expected to complete the necessary legal formalities, while the incident serves as another reminder for visitors to exercise caution at beaches during periods of strong sea currents.
