The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has taken action against two of its officers on Tuesday due to a case of violent behavior in Karachi’s Sarafa Bazaar.

This incident occurred on May 15 when the FIA conducted a raid on a jewelry store in Karachi’s Sarafa Bazaar regarding the smuggling of silver. As per the FIA, its official record showed 178 kilogrammes of silver were supposed to be seized from the shop, but 15kg of locally branded silver was recovered.

The FIA also claimed that the other 163 kg of silver could have been smuggled during the ruckus created by the traders and shopkeepers in the market.

In a statement released today, the Karachi zone director took immediate notice of this matter and launched legal and departmental action against the officers.

Assistant Director Syed Ali Mardan Shah, who was posted as in-charge of the FIA Karachi Anti-Corruption Circle with additional charges of deputy director, has been suspended from his duties.

Assistant Director Rabab Qazi has been shifted from the Anti-Corruption Circle to the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle.

“The case has been registered against a private individual who is alleged to have slapped a citizen during the incident,” the FIA said, adding that an inquiry has been ordered against all the officers and staff members present during the incident.

The investigating agency informed that the matter was being investigated in an impartial manner. It further stated that no tolerance would be shown against the misuse of authority, irresponsible behavior, and any act against the law by the FIA Karachi Zone.
