Four women, arrested on suspicion of stealing jewelry of PML-N MPA Uzma Kardar, accused Punjab Police of stripping them and subjecting them to physical torture during the investigation.
The female employees of a private housing society club alleged that the police strip-searched them in front of Uzma Kardar, beat them with batons, and twisted their arms.
Uzma Kardar registered an FIR at the Model Town police station in Lahore on March 22nd, alleging her gold jewellery worth Rs500,000 was stolen from a locker at a local club while she was swimming.
She suspected two female staff members who worked there.
SP Investigation Shahzad Rafiq rejected the allegations of stripping and police violence made by the women.
He added that there was not enough evidence to prove theft against the women. Subsequently, the four women were released with the approval of Uzma Kardar's husband.
The club management also came to their defence and maintained their innocence.
Earlier, Uzma Kardar claimed that she did not misplace her jewellery and demanded its recovery, insisting it had been stolen.
