A superintendent of police (SP) has been booked for allegedly torturing and harassing a woman in Peshawar.
The victim, named Mehwish, filed a complaint with the Chamkani police station, accusing SP Arif Khan of harassing and torturing her, according to media reports.
She stated in the FIR that her in-laws had family terms with the SP, due to which he frequently visited their residence.
“He used to threaten and force me to divorce my husband and marry him. When I complained about the matter to his wife, Shazia Arif, he subjected me to torture in front of his wife. Later his daughter named Huma, aged around 24-25, came and started abusing me badly,” the woman lamented.
“He [SP] used different tactics to threaten my husband to the extent that he agreed to divorce me,” said the victim.
According to initial investigations by police, the victim had torture marks.
A Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police spokesperson said the accused police officer has been immediately removed from field duty and issued orders to report to the Central Police Office.
He said directives have been issued for a high-level probe into the woman's allegations and submission of an inquiry report at the earliest.
