The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided not to present the tournament trophy to the Indian cricket team, citing their unsportsmanlike behavior. The trophy will remain at the ACC office.
According to sources, the decision comes after the Indian team refused to accept the trophy during the ceremony. ACC President Mohsin Naqvi reportedly stood firm on the matter, and it has been confirmed that the Indian team will not receive the trophy at a later date either.
Indian cricketers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma turned themselves into a laughing stock after posting a picture with a trophy emoji instead of lifting the real Asia Cup from ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Their gimmick, seen as desperation came after India’s bizarre refusal to accept the actual trophy during the post-match ceremony.
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav first refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy, and expressed disappointment over not getting it, only to later boast about it on Instagram with a trophy emoji alongside Tilak Verma.
Earlier, Yadav had expressed disbelief over Team India not receiving the Asia Cup trophy, saying, "This is something that I’ve never seen or heard since I started playing cricket that the winning team doesn’t get the trophy it deserves. But for me, the real trophy is the players, support staff, and everyone who contributed. What matters is that everywhere you see on screens, it says, Indian Team Asia Cup Champions."
Now, to save face and show off, he took to Instagram to and said, "When the game is done, only the champions will be remembered, not the picture of a š."
