Argentina coach Scaloni leaves press conference in tears after World Cup final defeat

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni became emotional and left his post-match press conference after his side's 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Spain ended Argentina's title defence thanks to Ferran Torres' winner in the 106th minute, securing their first men's World Cup title since 2010.

Argentina struggled to create opportunities throughout the match and failed to register a shot on target over 120 minutes as Spain controlled possession and produced the better chances.

The match ended amid disciplinary incidents. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez was sent off after receiving a second yellow card before the end of normal time, while Leandro Paredes was shown a straight red card following a confrontation between players after the final whistle.

Following the match, Scaloni addressed speculation about his future with the national team, saying he would hold discussions with the Argentine Football Association.

"I will talk to the president. I have an idea of what I would like to do. I will see out my contract and I feel the need to think things through," Scaloni said.
