Pakistan’s cricket team has officially raised concerns with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding Fakhar Zaman’s controversial dismissal during the high-voltage Asia Cup clash against India, stating the decision adversely impacted their position in the match.
According to team sources, manager Naveed Akram Cheema conveyed Pakistan’s reservations to match referee Andy Pycroft immediately after the game. The contentious decision was also documented in the captain’s official match report, while the management separately expressed its dissatisfaction to ICC officials and the umpiring panel.
The controversy stems from Sri Lankan TV umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge’s decision, who ruled Fakhar caught behind. The call, which many in the Pakistan camp felt was erroneous, came when the opener was batting on 15 runs with Pakistan’s score at 21.
The dismissal left both Fakhar and head coach Gary Kirsten visibly frustrated as he returned to the pavilion.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha suggested that the ruling may have been incorrect.
The incident has intensified debate around the consistency of TV umpiring in crucial fixtures, particularly in high-pressure encounters such as Pakistan versus India.
