WATCH: Babar Azam honoured with ICC Team of the Year 2024 cap

Ace cricketer Babar Azam has been awarded the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 cap, which 'fits perfectly,' in recognition of his impressive career and on-field performance.

The cap is an acknowledgment of his distinguished career in T20 format by the global cricket body, which praised the player for his exceptional skills and contributions to the sport.

“The ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 cap fits perfectly on Babar Azam,” the ICC wrote in a social media post, accomapnying a video showing the batter receiving the accolade.

Babar's remarkable form began early in the year, with three consecutive half-centuries against New Zealand. 

He secured 738 runs in 24 matches, including six half-centuries, with a top score of 75, maintaining an average of 33.54 runs.

"His [Babar] ability to perform under pressure and his consistency across formats reaffirmed his status as one of the finest players in international cricket," said the cricketing body.

Notably, Babar was the only player in Pakistan who was included in the elite team. 

On January 24, the ICC had unveiled the Men’s ODI Team of the year 2024. The team included players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and West Indies, earning recognition for their stellar contributions.

Pakistani batter Saim Ayub had been spotted at top-order dominance. Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf were included in the bowling attack category. 

The ICC Awards were established in 2004 to honour exceptional performances in international cricket. The 20th edition recognises achievements from January 1 to 30 December 2024 and concludes with the crowning of the most prestigious individual awards on January 28.
