The United States has relaxed travel restrictions for the Iranian national football team participating in the FIFA World Cup 2026, providing the squad with greater flexibility ahead of its matches.
Under the revised arrangements, the Iranian team will now be permitted to enter the United States two days before each match. Previously, the squad was only allowed to arrive one day prior to kick-off.
The decision follows concerns raised by Iranian officials regarding travel logistics and stringent security procedures associated with repeated cross-border movements.
Although all of Iran’s World Cup matches are being played in the United States, the team is based in neighbouring Mexico. As a result, players have been required to travel back and forth for each fixture, creating additional logistical challenges.
Iranian authorities argued that the limited arrival window was affecting players’ rest, recovery and match preparation.
In response, tournament organisers agreed to provide additional flexibility by extending the permitted entry period.
Iran are scheduled to play their final group-stage match against Egypt on 27 June. The team will be aiming to secure a positive result to keep its hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive.
