Pakistan’s javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem bowed out of medal contention at the World Athletics Championships 2025 on Thursday, finishing outside the top eight in the men’s javelin final.
Nadeem recorded a best throw of 82.75 metres, falling short of the cut required for three additional attempts. He opened with 82.73m, fouled on his second attempt, managed 82.75m on his third, and registered another foul on his fourth attempt.
In a message posted on X after the event, Nadeem revealed that an injury had hampered his preparations since July. “Although I couldn't achieve the result I had hoped for, I am proud to have represented Pakistan. I promise to come back stronger and work even harder,” he wrote, while thanking fans for their support.
Pakistan’s campaign ended with his elimination, while India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra also struggled, finishing eighth with 84.03m — well below his season-best of 90.23m.
The world title went to Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott, who secured gold with a throw of 88.16m, his first global triumph since the 2012 Olympics. Grenada’s Anderson Peters won silver with 87.38m, and American Curtis Thompson claimed bronze with 86.67m, marking the United States’ first men’s javelin medal since 2007.
India’s Sachin Yadav registered a personal best of 86.27m to finish fourth, while Germany’s Julian Weber managed 86.11m for fifth place despite entering the championship as the world leader. Kenya’s former world champion Julius Yego withdrew after sustaining an ankle injury on his third attempt.
