Indian cricket fans took to social media on Tuesday to criticise their team’s captain Suryakumar Yadav after a video showed him shaking hands with Pakistan Cricket Board and Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Naqvi during the Asia Cup captains’ press conference.

The clip quickly went viral, with many Indian users questioning the gesture.

The incident overshadowed the press conference where Yadav had earlier spoken about the importance of aggression in cricket ahead of the high-voltage Pakistan-India clash scheduled for September 14 in Dubai.

“Aggression is always there on the field, and without aggression, I don’t think you can play this sport, and I am sure I am very excited to take the field,” he told reporters. India will open their campaign against the UAE on Wednesday, while Pakistan face Oman on Friday.

Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha responded to Yadav’s comments, noting that every cricketer approaches the game differently. “You don’t need to say anything to any player because everyone is individually very different. If someone wants to be aggressive on the field, they are more than welcome to do that,” he said.

The captains also made headlines after social media speculation suggested Salman and Yadav had ignored each other while leaving the stage. However, later footage confirmed the two did exchange greetings off stage.
