Kylian Mbappé equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of most goals in a year

French football star Kylian Mbappé has matched his childhood idol Cristiano Ronaldo’s record by scoring 59 goals in a single calendar year.

He achieved this milestone during Real Madrid’s Spanish League match against Sevilla, where he also replicated Ronaldo’s iconic goal celebration.

On 21 December, in a La Liga match, Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 2-0. Mbappé’s late penalty secured the victory and brought him level with Ronaldo as the player with the most goals in a calendar year for the club.

Remarkably, this goal came on Mbappé’s 25th birthday, making the occasion even more memorable.

Mbappé, in his second season with Real Madrid, has had 2025 as his standout year, marked by a consistent scoring streak, decisive performances in league matches, and now a record previously held by a club legend.

After the match, Mbappé said that replicating what Cristiano Ronaldo achieved is incredible.

He described Ronaldo as the best player in Real Madrid’s history and deliberately celebrated in Ronaldo’s signature style to honour his childhood idol and share the moment with him.
