Amid recent tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans on Tuesday submitted a detailed proposal to the board, calling for structural reforms aimed at improving governance, transparency, and collaboration within the league.
According to a statement issued by the franchise, the letter addressed to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi acknowledged recent disagreements but described them as an opportunity to “rebuild trust and introduce professional systems” so that the PSL could “reach its full potential”.
Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen reaffirmed the franchise’s commitment to the league and highlighted concerns over “ad hoc decision-making” and “limited management experience”, urging the PCB to introduce institutional processes and accountability mechanisms.
The franchise proposed four key reforms to strengthen league operations. The first suggested formal franchise representation on PSL committees and working groups, ensuring that decisions reflect collective experience across scheduling, marketing, ticketing, and match-day operations.
The second reform called for structured hiring processes for key PSL positions, with franchise involvement in defining roles, vetting candidates, and ensuring merit-based appointments. “The PSL has the ability to attract top regional talent and should not rely primarily on current or former PCB employees,” the statement said.
A professional management structure was proposed as the third reform, recommending a clear organisational chart with departments for operations, marketing, fan engagement, player affairs, and finance — all led by a qualified executive team.
The final reform sought regular reporting to franchises, including monthly meetings with set agendas, recorded minutes, and follow-up on action points across various departments to improve accountability and collaboration.
According to the statement, the proposal emphasises “partnership over control” and aims to align all stakeholders around the shared goal of “building a globally respected league for Pakistan and its fans”.
The development follows recent friction between the PCB and Tareen, who last week criticised the PSL management’s “mediocre mindset” after his franchise was issued a legal notice over an alleged breach of contractual obligations.
In response, Tareen posted a video on social media showing himself tearing up what appeared to be the legal notice, though he later said it was “time to move forward” and called for a “fresh relationship with the board built on transparency, cooperation, and trust.”
