Pakistan exempts ICC, Champions Trophy 2025 players from income tax

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) granted approval for income tax exemptions for the International Cricket Council (ICC) in relation to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

According to a press release, “the committee reviewed the summary presented by the Revenue Division, noting that these exemptions are in accordance with international best practices for hosting major sporting events.”

The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The press release further stated, “In accordance with the standardized hosting rights agreement between the ICC and Pakistan, no taxes or deductions will be imposed on the revenues of the ICC, its subsidiaries, associates, officials, and non-resident delegates.”

However, it was noted that Pakistani residents, including the Pakistan Cricket Board, will still be liable for income tax on their earnings from the tournament. “Sales Tax and Federal Excise Duty exemptions will not apply.”

The statement emphasized that “the tax exemption is not anticipated to lead to a revenue shortfall, as it was a necessary condition for obtaining the rights to host the tournament.”

The committee also engaged in discussions regarding economic issues and made several important decisions.

Additionally, the committee reviewed a summary from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research concerning the potential lifting of the ban on the commercial export of sheep and goats to Kuwait, but chose to postpone the agenda for further clarification and due diligence.
