The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted Pakistan’s preliminary squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to the International Cricket Council, sources said on Thursday.
According to the sources, the PCB forwarded the names of a 15-member provisional squad along with reserve players. The board has the option to make changes to the squad without ICC approval until January 31. Any alterations after that date will require clearance from the ICC Technical Committee.
Sources said the PCB plans to finalise the World Cup squad after the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, as well as in conjunction with preparations for the Australia series. The board is keen to assess the performances of one or two players during the Sri Lanka series before confirming the final lineup.
The preliminary list includes players currently touring Sri Lanka, along with senior cricketers Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, sources added.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on February 7 and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan are set to play all of their tournament matches in Sri Lanka.
