PCB terminates Haris Rauf's central contract for skipping Australia tour

LAHORE: In the wake of an inquiry into his decision to decline to join Pakistan’s Test squad for the 2023-24 tour of Australia, fast bowler Haris Rauf has faced repercussions from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Following a comprehensive investigation led by a PCB committee and considering input from all parties involved, the decision has been made to terminate Haris’ central contract effective from December 1, 2023.

Additionally, the PCB has decided not to grant him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for participating in any foreign leagues until June 30, 2024.

Haris was afforded the opportunity for a personal hearing by the PCB management on January 30, 2024, by the principles of natural justice. However, his response during the hearing failed to meet the satisfactory standards set forth by the PCB.

The PCB emphasizes that representing Pakistan is an unparalleled honor and privilege for any athlete. Therefore, Haris’ refusal to join the Test squad without providing a medical report or a justifiable reason is considered a significant breach of his central contract.

The PCB's decision underscores the importance of commitment and accountability among players, reinforcing the principle that national duty should always take precedence over personal considerations in matters concerning representation in international cricket.
