Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar could not contain his outrage over Rishabh Pant’s shot selection, which led to his dismissal at a crucial point in the match on the third morning of the MCG Test between Australia and India.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid," Gavaskar blurted out during his live commentary on ABC Radio in reaction to Rishabh Pant's dismissal.

He said Pant "let India down badly” by throwing away his wicket before Australia.

“You have got two fielders there, and you still go for that, you have missed the previous shot and look where you have caught,” frustrating Gavaskar sitting in the commentary box, could not stop himself before anger, adding, “That is throwing away your wicket.”

While cotinuing his outburst, he did not allow another commentator to further analyse the match, saying, “You have to understand the situation, you can’t say that this is a natural game. I’m sorry, that is not a natural game.”

“That's a stupid shot. That is letting your team down badly!” he added.

Pant, who had looked promising with a quick 28 off 37 balls, attempted a reckless scoop shot off Scott Boland, only to be caught by Nathan Lyon at deep third man.

Gavaskar’s scathing criticism was directed at the reckless shot,  accusin Pant of failing his team at a crucial juncture in the match.
