The Tareen Group has joined the bidding process for the new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises, marking its return to the league’s ownership race a month after Ali Tareen stepped away from Multan Sultans.
According to media reports, the group has submitted the required documentation to participate in the bidding for two additional teams.
The Tareen Group will be competing with 11 other interested parties from Pakistan and abroad, including companies based in the UAE, the United States, Australia and Canada, subject to meeting the league’s technical criteria.
The bidding process is scheduled to take place on January 8 at the Islamabad Convention Centre.
The development comes as Multan Sultans is expected to formally part ways with its current owners, a decision that is due to be ratified by the PSL governing board on December 31.
Ties between the franchise’s ownership and the league administration had reportedly become strained in recent months.
Ali Tareen has been vocal in his criticism of the PSL’s management, using podcasts and social media platforms to raise concerns over the league’s administration and the role of a senior official. After receiving a notice from the PSL board, he shared a video online showing the notice being torn up, accompanied by critical remarks.
Unlike the other six franchises, Multan Sultans was not offered an extension under the revised fee structure.
