Indian batter Virat Kohli recorded an unwanted milestone on Thursday after being dismissed for a four-ball duck during the second One Day International (ODI) against Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

The former Indian captain’s dismissal marked his 18th duck in ODIs, making him the active player with the most ducks in the format. He surpassed Rohit Sharma, Litton Das, and former Zimbabwe skipper Brendan Taylor, who each have 16.

This was also the first time in Kohli’s career that he registered ducks in consecutive ODIs, following his eight-ball dismissal in the opening match of the series in Perth.

Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya currently holds the all-time record for most ODI ducks with 34, followed by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi with 30.

In Thursday’s match, Australian pacer Xavier Bartlett claimed Kohli’s wicket, trapping him leg-before with a good-length delivery that nipped back into the right-hander. Kohli, after briefly consulting his batting partner, chose not to review the umpire’s decision.

Despite the setback, the Adelaide crowd gave Kohli a warm round of applause as he walked back to the pavilion, his frustration evident after an uncharacteristic run of low scores.
