In a move reminiscent of star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, Zimbabwe’s cricket team captain, Sikandar Raza, made a statement during a press conference ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh.
During the press meet, Raza was captured on camera deliberately removing bottles of Coca-Cola, a prominent sponsor of the event, and discreetly placing them under the table. This action mirrored Ronaldo’s well-known gesture at Euro 2020, where he pushed aside bottles of the same beverage, advocating for water instead.
The motives behind Raza’s actions remain unclear. While Ronaldo has been vocal about his support for healthy living and his disapproval of sugary drinks, it’s uncertain if Raza shares similar sentiments or if he intended to convey a different message altogether.
This incident has ignited conversations about athlete sponsorship deals and the influence they wield. The repercussions, if any, that Raza may face from the event organizers or Coca-Cola are yet to be seen.
Nevertheless, this act is bound to generate considerable attention on social media platforms and within cricket circles in the days to come.
