A video statement of one of the four cops arrested for allegedly taking bribe from cricketer Sohaib Maqsood is circulating on social media.
Four policemen from Sakrand were arrested after Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Riffat Raja took notice of the cricketer’s allegations that while travelling from Karachi to Multan by road, he was stopped by the police who demanded a bribe to allow his vehicle to travel on a highway.
In a video statement, one of the cops behind bars, claimed that, “We were performing our duty on the national highway when we encountered a red Civic being driven wrong way with flashing lights. We gestured them with a torch to ask why are they driving the car on the wrong side and found that the car had tinted glass and a fancy number plate.”
Sindh and Punjab are irrelevant to this matter. Spreading unfounded prejudice and extremism based on falsehoods is unjust. There is no truth to it. I am confident that the police would not have taken eight thousand from you. Sindh Police typically stop vehicles like Vego , or… pic.twitter.com/w7ilMXH8yX

The cop said they stopped the car because they were instructed by the high-ups to check such vehicles.
“The driver initially hesitated to lower the windows, after a while, he put them down and without any introduction, he started accusing the Sindh police of corruption,” he said.
“He [driver] said, ‘I don’t want to talk to you and the whole world would see tomorrow what I would do with you”, the policeman added. “And then he started misbehaving with us. How is that possible that a person who misbehaved with us and then agreed to give us Rs8000,” he continued.
The police officer demanded a fair investigation into the matter, denying taking a single penny from the circketer.
