Australia seeks Indian intelligence cooperation in Sydney beach attack probe

Australian authorities have contacted Indian agencies to seek cooperation in the investigation of the attack that took place on a beach in Sydney, Australia.
According to reports, Australian officials have reached out to Indian intelligence agencies for assistance in probing the background of the attacker involved in the Bondi Beach incident.
Indian media reports state that Australian authorities requested cooperation from Indian intelligence to help determine the attacker’s background.
Indian media further reported that Indian intelligence agencies have assured Australia of full cooperation in this matter.
Earlier, a person who had worked with one of the attackers, Naveed Akram, claimed that he believed Naveed Akram’s father, Sajid Akram, was of Indian origin, while his mother was Italian.
It is pertinent to note that armed assailants opened fire on civilians at a beach in Sydney a day earlier, resulting in the deaths of 16 people and injuries to 40 others.
In retaliatory action by the police, one attacker was killed, while the second was taken into custody in an injured condition.
During a press conference, New South Wales Police stated that the two attackers who opened fire during a Jewish event at the beach were father and son.
One of them was killed at the scene, while the other remains critically injured.
