Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei's close aide Ali Shamkhani is reportedly recovering after being critically injured in an Israeli assassination attempt last week.
Shamkhani, a prominent political and military figure in Iran, has played a key role in representing Tehran in nuclear negotiations with the United States.
According to Iranian state media, his condition has now stabilised due to round-the-clock efforts by medical teams.
In a message addressed to the Supreme Leader and the Iranian nation, Shamkhani was quoted as saying, “I am alive and ready to sacrifice myself.”
Ali Shamkhani has held various prominent government positions, including roles within the IRGC and the defence ministry, and continues to be a top national security official.
Shamkhani is not only a prominent figure domestically but is also well-regarded in diplomatic circles for his role in re-establishing diplomatic ties with Saudi Arabia after years of estrangement. He also ran for the presidential office in 2001.
Notably, Shamkhani advised Khamenei on nuclear talks with the US. He had also previously warned that Iran would cease cooperation with the IAEA if it felt threatened by the organisation.
