Tech billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted at mending ties with US President Donald Trump, expressing regret over his recent sharp criticism of the Republican leader.

Musk admitted that some of his remarks may have gone too far, just days after publicly leveling serious allegations against Trump and suggesting that he could not win an election without Musk’s support.

Taking to X, Musk wrote, “I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far.”

This statement comes after a very public fallout between the two influential figures, sparked by a series of disagreements.

Inside the Trump-Musk breakup: Key reasons behind their rift

Musk had earlier accused Trump of being named in the Jeffrey Epstein files, while Trump responded by calling Musk "crazy" and stating their relationship would never be the same.

The conflict reportedly began when Musk resigned from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) without informing Trump.

He later went public with his criticism of the Republican administration, denouncing the “big beautiful bill” and accusing it of reversing his proposed federal spending cuts.

In response, President Trump expressed his disappointment over Musk’s opposition to a key tax and spending bill in Congress. During a televised address from the Oval Office, Trump even threatened to cancel billions of dollars in federal contracts awarded to Musk’s companies.

Musk fired back, claiming that his support was crucial to Trump’s past electoral success. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election. Democrats would control the House, and Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk asserted.

Trump, however, claimed it was his own decision to remove Musk from an advisory role and suggested that the tech mogul was “losing control.” He even accused Musk of drug use—though no evidence was presented, and said he was unfazed by Musk’s growing criticism.

In another twist, Trump withdrew his earlier nomination of Jared Isaacman, reportedly recommended by Musk, to head NASA.

Further escalating tensions, Musk polled his followers on X about whether he should launch a new political party.

Now, with Musk extending what seems like an olive branch, it remains to be seen whether Trump will respond in kind. So far, the US President has not publicly reacted to Musk’s post.
