KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice of Nepal’s Supreme Court, Sushila Karki, has agreed to take charge of an interim government as the army moved to restore order following days of violent unrest.
The protests—dubbed the Gen Z Revolution—erupted last week after the government shut down major social media platforms, sparking anger among young Nepalis.
During the unrest, at least 30 people were killed, hundreds injured, and several government buildings were set ablaze.
Leaders of the protest movement met with military officials on Wednesday to discuss the country’s future course.

The Gen Z movement has been demanding early elections, and it was the protesters themselves who proposed the name of Sushila Karki to head the interim government.
Karki has since expressed her willingness to assume the role, signaling a potential breakthrough in ending the crisis.
