“Expel Israelis to Greenland:” Iran mocks Trump’s Gaza plan

Iran sharply criticised US President Donald Trump's controversial remarks about displacing Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring Arab states. Tehran suggested that instead of displacing Palestinians, Israelis should be “expelled to Greenland.”

"My suggestion is different. Instead of Palestinians, expel Israelis and send them to Greenland so they can kill two birds with one stone," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said while speaking to American news channel Sky News.

On January 25, Trump made the contentious statement,  one of his most provocative remarks on Gaza since assuming office on January 20. He also revealed that he had discussed the proposal with Jordan's King and planned to consult Egypt’s President soon.

Palestinians strongly rejected US President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to "clean out Gaza" by relocating its population to Jordan and Egypt, an idea widely criticised as a clear indication of ethnic cleansing.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) condemned the proposal, labeling it a violation of "red lines." The PA reiterated that Gaza residents would remain on their indigenous land.

Addressing the possibility of negotiations with the Trump administration over Iran’s nuclear program, Araghchi stated that Iran was willing to engage in talks. However, he emphasised that the process would be far more challenging than in the past, when the original nuclear deal was reached.

He asserted that to begin negotiations, the other party must win our confidence. Mere ‘nice words’ will not be enough.
