Gaza’s healthcare system is nearing total collapse due to severe shortages of medical supplies and a surge in casualties from ongoing Israeli military operations, according to health officials in the region.

Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, warned that the Strip is "breathing its last breath" as hospitals struggle to treat injuries resulting from what are reported as new and highly destructive weapons. He cited a critical lack of antiseptics, antibiotics, and basic medical supplies, leaving many wounds untreated.

Al-Bursh condemned repeated strikes on civilian shelters and said international organizations have failed to intervene effectively. He further accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon, noting that no food, medicine, or humanitarian aid had entered Gaza for over a month.

Dr. Fadel Naeem, Director of the Baptist Hospital in Gaza, described the situation as “catastrophic,” highlighting that hospitals are operating beyond capacity and facing severe fuel shortages. Only one CT scanner remains operational in northern Gaza, despite the growing need.

Both officials pointed to the loss of around 400 healthcare workers—including 200 specialists—due to death, detention, or displacement, further crippling the territory’s already strained health system.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in the deterioration of healthcare infrastructure, with thousands of casualties and growing concerns over access to essential services amid continued hostilities.
