Hamas wants changes to Trump peace plan for Gaza

Hamas is seeking amendments to US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, specifically on clauses related to disarmament and withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza Strip, according to a media report.

It said that Hamas negotiators met Tuesday in Doha with officials from Turkey, Egypt and Qatar. The group, it added, would need “two or three days at most” to provide a formal response.

Trump’s proposal — strongly supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages within 72 hours, Hamas’ disarmament and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Citing sources, the report said that Hamas is seeking revisions. “Hamas wants to amend some of the clauses such as the one on disarmament and the expulsion of Hamas and faction cadres,” it said, quoting a source.

The group’s leadership, according to the same source, is also demanding guarantees. “Hamas leaders want international guarantees for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip,” he explained. They also want assurances that no assassinations would take place inside or outside the territory.

Another source said that Hamas remains divided over the American plan.

“So far there are two views within Hamas,” the source said, also requesting anonymity. “The first supports unconditional approval because the important thing is to have a ceasefire guaranteed by Trump, provided that the mediators guarantee Israel’s implementation of the plan.”

Yet others within the movement remain skeptical. “Some have great reservations on important clauses,” the source noted.

He continued: “They reject disarmament and for any Palestinian citizen to be taken away from Gaza.”
