Hezbollah announced that it had launched dozens of rockets at Israel, escalating tensions in the Middle East.
This move comes in response to the killing of Hamas’s political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran earlier this week, and amid growing fears of a regional conflict involving Iran and its allies.
Hezbollah claimed that its rocket attacks targeted Moshav Beit Hillel in Israel and resulted in civilian injuries. They described the attack as retaliation for recent Israeli strikes on Kfar Kela and Deir Siriane in Lebanon, as well as an Israeli strike in Beirut that killed Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah military commander. However, international media reports indicate no casualties from Hezbollah's attack.
US and Israeli officials had anticipated that Iran might retaliate against Israel as early as Monday, according to an Axios report.
In response to the escalating situation, the US embassy in Lebanon has urged its citizens to leave the country "on any ticket available" due to the threat of an all-out war between Israel and Hezbollah and the possibility of a broader regional conflict. Despite some flight suspensions and cancellations, the embassy assured that commercial transportation options are still available.
Similarly, the UK government has advised its citizens in Lebanon to depart immediately. Foreign Minister David Lammy emphasized the urgency, stating, “Tensions are high, and the situation could deteriorate rapidly.” He urged British nationals to leave while commercial options remain viable, noting that the Foreign Office is working to enhance its consular presence in Lebanon.
