Iran sharply criticised the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Thursday, accusing it of  providing a “pretext” for Israeli military aggression through “absolutely biased” reporting.

In a strongly worded statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei lashed out at IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, claiming that the agency’s reports were manipulated by Western powers and ultimately used to justify military aggression against Iran.

Responding to Grossi’s recent admission that the IAEA has no concrete evidence that Iran is actively developing nuclear weapons, Baghaei said, “This is too late.”

“You obscured this truth in your absolutely biased report that was instrumentalised by the E3 and the US to craft a resolution with baseless allegations of ‘non-compliance’,” Baghaei wrote on X.

He referred to France, Germany, the UK, and the United States, stating, “The same resolution was then utilised, as a final pretext, by a genocidal warmongering regime to wage a war of aggression on Iran and to launch an unlawful attack on our peaceful nuclear facilities.”

The spokesman accused the IAEA of complicity in what he termed a “criminal war,” questioning how many innocent Iranians had been killed or injured as a result of the attack. “Misleading narratives have dire consequences, Mr Grossi, and demand accountability,” he added.

Baghaei went on to accuse the IAEA of betraying its foundational mission, writing, “You betrayed the non-proliferation regime. You’ve made the IAEA a partner to this unjust war of aggression.”

The allegations came amid a period of heightened tension in the region following an Israeli airstrike that targeted Iranian nuclear infrastructure, which Tel Aviv claims is part of a broader effort to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
