Laylatul Qadr, or the Night of Decree, is a blessed night in the last 10 days of Ramadan. While its exact date remains unknown, Islamic teachings highlight key signs that may indicate its occurrence.

1. A calm and serene night

One of the most notable signs of Laylatul Qadr is the calmness and serenity of the night.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described it as follows: Laylatul-Qadr is calm and pleasant, neither hot nor cold, the sun rises on its morning being feeble and red.

[Hadith | Sunan Ibn Majah, 1644 & Ibn Khuzaymah]

2. The sun rises without harsh rays

According to Hadith: The sun rises on the morning of Laylatul Qadr without rays, as if it were a brass dish, until it rises high. [Hadith | Sahih Muslim, 762]

3. Rain or a cool breeze

Some narrations mention that rainfall or a gentle breeze may occur on this night.

The Prophet (PBUH) once dreamed of prostrating in mud and water, linking rain to Laylatul Qadr.

Hadith Reference: “I saw myself prostrating in mud and water.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, 2016)

4. A night of peace

The Quran describes Laylatul Qadr as a night of complete peace.

Quran reference: “It is all peace until the break of dawn.” (Surah Al-Qadr, 97:5)

5. Moon appears like a plate

The moon on Laylatul Qadr may look different than usual, resembling a half plate.

Hadith Reference: “He who amongst you remembers (the night) when the moon arose and it was like a piece of a plate?” (Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah)
