Israeli airstrike during Fajr prayers kills over 100 Palestinians in Gaza

An Israeli airstrike struck the al-Tabin school in Daraj city of Gaza, where civilians had sought refuge, resulting in the deaths of over 100 Palestinians. The attack occurred during the Fajr prayers early on Saturday morning.

Al Jazeera reported, “Even from an aerial view, it’s clear that people were doing nothing but performing prayers.” Many were trapped as the school was engulfed in flames.

Gaza's civil defense agency described the attack as a “horrific massacre."

The attack highlights the impunity with which the Israeli occupation forces carry out deadly assaults on innocent civilians.

Israel has repeatedly targeted schools, hospitals, refugee camps, residential buildings, and children playing football while using evacuation orders to forcibly displace Palestinians.

In recent weeks, Israel has intensified its attacks on schools in Gaza, facing only little international scrutiny for its actions.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that Israel bombed nine schools in Gaza over eight days, killing 79 and injuring hundreds of Palestinians.

Despite the ongoing attacks on innocent civilians by Israel, the US has bolstered its arms supply to Tel Aviv.

The US government approved $3.5 billion in military aid to Israel on Friday to spend on American-made weapons and equipment.

Ceasefire talks are expected to begin, with negotiations set for August 15 in Cairo or Doha. Egypt, Qatar, and the US are working to ease regional tensions by bringing Hamas and Israel to the negotiating table.

However, as ceasefire discussions approach, the Israeli military escalates its assaults on Gaza, to carry out its plan to annihilate the city in an effort to “eliminate Hamas.”
