Israeli warplanes launched fresh air strikes on Gaza City late Wednesday following orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for an “immediate and intense” military response, according to Israeli media reports.
The Israeli Air Force targeted multiple locations across northern Gaza, including an area near Al-Shifa Hospital, local and international media reported.
According to Al Jazeera, one missile struck just behind the hospital, triggering panic among patients and medical staff. Witnesses described the explosions as “massive and terrifying,” with several nearby buildings reportedly damaged.
The latest escalation comes hours after Netanyahu directed the Israeli military to launch intensified operations in Gaza. Israeli media said the decision was made in response to what officials claimed was a breach of the ceasefire agreement by Hamas.
Reports further indicated that earlier in the day, Israeli soldiers came under attack in Rafah, located in southern Gaza.
