Social activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir urged Defence Minister Khawaja Asif to intervene in the release of pro-Palestinian activist Jameel Behram, who was reportedly ‘abducted’ from his home in Karachi on the night of October 3, according to family sources.
As Khawaja Asif is vocal on the Palestine issue and often speaks about it passionately, Jibran Nasir requested him to utilise his influence as a minister to help secure the release of the pro-Palestinian activist.
Earlier, the Defence Minister had shared a post on X, noting that non-Muslims in Mexico had taken to the streets in protest for Palestine. He added that, except for Yemen, no Muslim country had organised such large demonstrations for Gaza.
In response, Jibran Nasir reminded Khawaja Asif of his earlier claim of having full authority as a minister, urging him to use that power to assist Jameel Behram and his family.
“Khawaja Sahib, this is Jameel Bahram, a young man from Karachi who has been kidnapped since October 2. His only ‘crime’ is holding a mirror to the authorities over the ongoing atrocities in Gaza. You tell the international media that the authority lies with you and not your subordinates. So please order the officers to bring Jameel back home safely. First shake your conscience, then the public,” he wrote.

Jameel’s brother stated in a Facebook post that he was “abducted” by armed men who surrounded their home in Karachi. His family has appealed to the authorities to present him in court if he has committed any crime, so that legal proceedings can take place.
Jameel’s Facebook profile is filled with posts about Gaza, criticising the government’s stance on the issue and calling for a bolder position in support of the Palestinian cause.
