Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has blamed Muslims for the assassination of US far-right activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead at Utah Valley University earlier this week.

In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu sought to pin the attack on what he called “radical Islamists and ultra-progressives.”

“This is a worldwide problem,” Netanyahu said. “The people on the extremes, the Islamists, the radical Islamists, and their union with the ultra-progressives. They often speak about human rights and free speech, but they use violence to try to take down their enemies, whether it's President Trump, who’s been almost assassinated twice. They tried to kill me here too. But this time, they got Charlie Kirk, and it’s just heartbreaking.”

Kirk, a close ally of US president Donald Trump, was gunned down during a public event on campus. The FBI has released video footage showing the suspected shooter entering Utah Valley University and later escaping after the attack.

Investigations into the killing remain ongoing, and authorities have not shared any details about the suspect’s religious or political background.
