More than five million Muslim pilgrims have reached the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah in the last Ashra of Ramadan, the authorities said on Saturday.

According to the head of the Haramain administration, more than 50,000 pilgrims will observe Itikaf at the Grand Mosque, while a large number of pilgrims will also sit in Itikaf in regional mosques.

The administration has increased the personnel and technical facilities to ensure a smooth holy sojourn for the visitors.

On the other hand, almost 10 million Umrah pilgrims and worshippers visited the Holy Prophet's Mosque, Masjid-e-Nabawi (PBUH), in Madina al-Munawara during the first days of Ramadan.

As many as 195,800 bottles of Zamzam were distributed among the visitors at the holy mosque and around 298,530 iftar meals were distributed to the pilgrims during the first ten days of the sacred month.
