Pakistani-American politician Saud Anwar was elected to the US Senate for the fourth consecutive term from the Connecticut's state in Novemebr 5 elections .
Saud Anwar, currently represents Democratic party in Connecticut's District No 3.
In his most recent election, he secured 27,359 votes, defeating his Republican opponent Matt Sierra Cosa, who received 15,057 votes.
Saud Anwar first won this Senate seat in a special election on March 1, 2019, and has successfully won every subsequent election, with his current term set to expire on January 8 of next year.
In the 2022 election, Anwar defeated Matt Harper, receiving 18,968 votes to Harper's 12,189. In 2020, Saud Anwar had an outstanding victory, winning uncontested with 35,263 votes.
Saud Anwar's political career began in 2019 when he contested his first Connecticut Senate election, winning the special election with 4,437 votes against Republican Sarah Muska, who garnered 3,317 votes.
The seasoned politician holds a master's degree in public health from Yale University and has served as the chair of internal medicine at a local hospital.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a crucial role in saving lives by designing simple, cost-effective ventilators in response to the global shortage.
Saud Anwar has also held leadership roles such as the Commissioner for Asian Pacific American Affairs and Mayor of South Windsor.
Additionally, he has been a consultant for the FBI’s Multicultural Advisory Committee. In 2016, Saud Anwar ran for Connecticut House District 14 but was defeated by his Republican opponent.
