The U.S has officially launched Phase Two of President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza. The announcement was made on social media by Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East. It was said by him that the next phase marks a decisive step in stabilizing and reconstructing the war-torn Gaza.
Under this latest phase, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza will be established to oversee day-to-day governance during the transition period.
Mediators from Egypt, Turkey and Qatar have agreed on the 15-member committee, which is expected to be led by Ali Shaath, a former Palestinian government official.
The plan also includes demilitarization measures, with U.S. officials warning that Hamas must comply with its obligations, including the immediate return of the final deceased Israeli hostage. Despite the ceasefire, periodic clashes and airstrikes have continued, and full demilitarization remains a struggle.
To oversee implementation and manage international support, the U.S has launced a high-profile “Board of Peace” featuring key figures from the U.S., World Bank, and other global partners. This board will guide reconstruction financing, governance oversight and diplomatic engagement as Gaza moves towards recovery.
