Pope Francis condemned the global powers' failure to stop the ongoing conflict in the Middle East on the first anniversary of Gaza war.
In a letter to Catholics in the region, the Pope expressed deep sorrow over the violence, referring to the situation as a “shameful inability” of the international community to silence the weapons and bring about peace.
He emphasized that bloodshed and tears continue, while anger and revenge only grow.
The 87-year-old pontiff highlighted the need for dialogue and peace, lamenting the lack of attention given to these crucial aspects by those in power.
He also declared Monday a global day for prayer and fasting for peace, reinforcing his message of solidarity with Catholics and all those affected by the conflict.
Referring to Catholics in the Middle East as a “small, defenceless flock,” he extended his compassion to all victims of war, regardless of their religion or background.
The Pope's message underscored the devastating human cost of conflict, stating that while strategies and plans are often discussed, there is little concern for those who suffer.
He reminded global leaders that they would ultimately face God's judgement for imposing war on others.
