Renowned Palestinian artist Mahasen al-Khatib, known for her powerful illustrations and character designs, was killed alongside her entire family in an Israeli airstrike on their home in Jabalia refugee camp, northern Gaza.

The strike occurred just hours after Mahasen posted her final artwork on social media, which was a tribute to 19-year-old Shaban al-Dalu, who was burned to death during the Israeli bombing at al-Aqsa Hospital.

Through her art, she humanised the victims and shed light on the devastating reality of life in Gaza.

Despite the challenges posed by continuous bombardment and poor internet connectivity in the besieged enclave, Mahasen continued to expose Israeli genocide on social media through her art.

“The house was full of displaced people when Israel launched a series of intense attacks on the neighbourhood,” Mahasen's uncle, Hosam al-Khateeb, said while talking to Middle East Eye.

“Mahasen was killed instantly and eight individuals were injured, some critically,” the publication quoted Hosam as saying.

According to reports, the area was inaccessible to ambulances and civil defence crews due to relentless artillery shelling by Israeli forces.

Mahasen was also the bread winner of her family as a multifaceted artist. She was a painter, storyboard artist, freelance character designer, and digital art mentor.

The female artist always utilised her talents to advocate for Palestinian rights and raise awareness about the Israeli occupation in Gaza.
