Satellite image shows Israel’s key air base damaged after Iran's attack

Israel’s key military air base, which houses advanced aircraft and weapons supplied by the United States, sustained damage following an Iranian missile strike, as revealed by satellite imagery.

The barrage of missiles penetrated the roof of an aircraft hangar at Nevatim airbase in southern Israel, according to the Associated Press.

Satellite images show a damaged roof across several buildings near the main runway, with large debris scattered throughout the area. 

However, the images are not clear enough to determine the extent of damage to the armaments stored at the base, which includes American F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jets.

As reported by Al Jazeera, the Israeli military has yet to issue a statement regarding the satellite images.

Nevatim airbase also suffered surface damage in April, when Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel.

Iran fired nearly 200 missiles across Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah's founding member Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, and the assassinations of top IRGC military commanders.

The IRGC claimed that hypersonic missiles were employed in the attack for the first time and successfully hit 90 percent of the targets.

Alarms sounded across cities, and Israeli settlers were asked to take refuge in bomb shelters, while the IDF claimed that Iranian missiles were intercepted with the help of the US and the country's defence system.

Iran had repeatedly indicated retaliation for Israeli provocations, and it finally carried out its attack on several IDF military bases, warning of "vast destruction" if Israel attempted to strike back at Tehran.
