The Saudi Arabian government is set to install a cable car system by 2025 to facilitate access to Hira Cave, the sacred site where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received his first revelation.
The initiative aims to make visiting the holy site accessible for pilgrims.
Hira Cave is located on Mount Al Noor, 634 metres above sea level. It is situated approximately 4 kilometres from the Grand Mosque. Cable cars will improve the journey for pilgrims visiting the cave.
Jabal Al Noor, with its distinctive camel hump shape and steep slopes, is a revered historical site where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received early revelations.
Previously, pilgrims were unable to visit Hira Cave due to its rough terrain. However, with the new improvements to the roads leading to holy site and the upcoming launch of a cable car system, people will be able to experience its spiritual significance.
CEO of Samaya Investment Company Fawaz Al-Muhrej, who is overseeing the project, confirmed that it is in its final phase and is expected to open to visitors next year.
Currently, a model of the sacred cave is exhibited by the Hira District for those unable to visit the site until the cable car system is operational.
In addition to improving accessibility, the Saudi Arabian government is also working to enhance the infrastructure of these historical and religious sites. These plans include developing the Hira Cultural District and constructing three museums in Jabal Omar by 2025.
The Mount Thor District, including a fully integrated neighborhood, will be developed in the same year.
These development projects will enhance the experience of pilgrims by providing improved access to Islam’s historical sites.
