Police investigating the Rs300 million cash van robbery in Karachi have identified the van’s crew chief, Wajid, as the alleged mastermind behind the heist, according to the police

Speaking about the investigation, the police said Wajid had planned the robbery and allegedly arranged for the cash to be transferred from the cash van to a double-cabin vehicle. Investigators believe the four robbers who arrived in the vehicle were in contact with him throughout the operation.

Police said that after the robbery, Wajid allegedly locked the cash van from the outside before fleeing the scene.

According to investigators, Wajid and other suspects involved in the robbery have escaped from the city. Preliminary findings suggest that the cash van driver and two security guards were also involved in the incident. All three have been taken into custody for questioning.

Officials said the cash van had departed from a company office on Tariq Road on Friday morning carrying cash in 20 bags. Investigators believe standard operating procedures (SOPs) were violated when the vehicle was stopped near Water Pump.

Police have completed geofencing of the crime scene and obtained the call data records of the suspects as part of the investigation.

Authorities described the incident as the largest cash robbery reported in Karachi so far this year. The looted amount has not yet been recovered, and efforts are underway to trace the suspects and recover the stolen money.
