The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has said that pilgrims visiting the Harmain Shareefain, should refrain from sleeping and lying down in the corridors and courtyards, out of respect for the sanctity of the Holy places.
The ministry issued a statement on the microblogging platform X, urging pilgrims visiting the Holy Kaaba and Masjid Al-Nabawi (Peace Be Upon him) in Makkah and Medina to dedicate more time to worship.
“Abstaining from sleep or rest within the sacred precincts of the Two Holy Mosques preserves the tranquillity of worshippers' devotions, ensuring the serene and undisturbed observance of their hallowed rituals,” the statement read.
According to the ministry, resting in corridors and courtyards is inappropriate. Pilgrims should especially avoid sitting on paths designated for emergencies. It is important to consider the convenience of other pilgrims using these paths.
Sleeping or lying down in the sacred sites can cause congestion and disrupt the movement of pilgrims.
