An activist disrupted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s speech on the Middle East, calling him out for facilitating Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Blinken was delivering his remarks at an Atlantic Council event in Washington, DC, on Tuesday when the incident occurred.
In a video circulating on social media, the activist can be heard shouting, “Bloody Blinken, Secretary of Genocide,” adding, “We will not forgive you, we will not forget.” She also accused Blinken of having “the blood of hundreds and thousands of innocent people” on his hands.
Despite the interruption, Blinken paused briefly as the woman continued to call him out. She criticised him for ignoring the pleas of activists, saying, “We have spent a year appealing to your humanity, standing outside your house, and writing letters.”
During his speech, Blinken urged Israel to recognise Palestinian rights, warning that policies of annexation could jeopardise democracy and stability in Tel Aviv.
He proposed “time-bound conditions” for the Palestinian statehood and emphasised the need for post-war reconstruction in Gaza. Blinken added that these plans would eventually be presented to the Trump administration.
Blinken also stated, “We believe the Palestinian Authority should invite international partners to help establish and run an interim administration in Gaza, responsible for key civil sectors such as banking, water, energy, health, and civil coordination with Israel.”
However, despite his acknowledgment of Palestinian rights, the Biden administration has consistently refused to acknowledge Israel’s actions in Gaza as genocide.
The US continues to provide unconditional military aid to Israel, fully aware that these weapons are being used in what many describe as brutal and ruthless attacks on civilians in Gaza.
