Ljubljana: Slovenia has announced a travel ban on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing allegations of war crimes in Gaza.

According to international media, Slovenia had formally recognized Palestine last year and, in July this year, imposed similar restrictions on two far-right Israeli cabinet ministers.

State Secretary at Slovenia’s Foreign Ministry, Neva Grašič, said the move reaffirms the country’s commitment to international law, human rights, and a principled and consistent foreign policy.

In August, Slovenia banned arms sales to Israel and prohibited imports of goods produced in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.

Neva Grašič stated that the action against Netanyahu was taken due to the ongoing proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), where he faces accusations of committing war crimes in Gaza.

“With this decision, the government is sending a clear message to Israel that Slovenia expects full compliance with international courts and humanitarian law,” she added.
