Tragic lightning strikes in India’s Gujarat kill 24

Tragic lightning strikes have claimed the lives of 24 individuals and left approximately 23 others injured in the western Indian state of Gujarat over the past two days, according to government officials.

The heavy rains persisted without respite on Monday morning.

Torrential rains accompanied by thunderstorms and hailstorms battered the state of Gujarat on Sunday and Monday. 

The state government data indicates that some areas received up to 144 millimeters (5.7 inches) of rain in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning.

The rains swept away houses and wiped out livestock.

The Agriculture Minister of Gujrat has announced compensations for the victims on the basis of the survey’s results, assessing the loss suffered.
