Trump likely to visit India

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Washington is working to arrange a visit by President Donald Trump to India early next year, as both countries continue discussions on a bilateral trade agreement, Indian media outlet IANS reported on Saturday.

Rubio said he is likely to visit India later this year to help prepare for the planned presidential trip. “We’re working towards sometime early next year to have the president come,” he said, according to IANS.

The remarks come after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Trump last week on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in France, where Trump described their meeting as a “very good” conversation.

India has been pushing for a Trump visit for several months, potentially alongside a broader meeting involving Japan and Australia.
